Thankful Sundays: Happy Mother's Day
Something beautiful happens when gratitude becomes intentional. Today marks the launch of "Thankful Sundays," our new monthly tradition dedicated to celebrating you – our growing dysfunction family spanning three continents and seven countries!
The universe has a funny way of aligning special moments, so it feels utterly perfect that our first Thankful Sunday coincides with both Mother's Day and Kerry's birthday. From Sweden to Pakistan, from coast to coast across America, we're marveling at how our voices have traveled to places we never imagined reaching.

Welcome to the Dysfunction Junkies podcast. We may not have seen it all, but we've seen enough. And now here are your hosts, chrissy and Kerry. Welcome, junkies. I'm Kerry and I'm Chrissy. All right, everybody, we are going to start something new here at Dysfunction Junkies. I'm Keri and I'm Chrissy. All right, everybody, we are going to start something new here at Dysfunction Junkies. We are going to start something we're going to call Thankful Sundays. So, since we started our podcast, chrissy and I really do try to prioritize our, you know, giving shout outs to our listeners. You know our junkie family. We wouldn't be here without you guys. So we are going to dedicate one episode a month to do just that, and it'll be on one Sunday a month. Not sure which Sunday, but it'll be a Sunday a month, and so this is our first one. We thought what a good day to do this then, on Mother's Day, so happy.
Speaker 2:Mother's Day. It is Mother's Day, yay. And also, I didn't forget. Happy birthday, carrie. Thank you.
Speaker 1:Yes, today is my birthday again, sharing it with the moms out there, but thank you for thinking of me.
Speaker 2:You're welcome Everybody. Please wish Carrie a happy birthday.
Speaker 1:Now see, you can't do that. Why? Why? Because you're prompting people to say then no it has to be because people are selfish.
Speaker 2:They actually follow through.
Speaker 1:With that, you should feel special well, if they think about it after, they think about their mom, then, yes, I will appreciate it. So, but we do want to give a special shout out to our moms, because how we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them, right, ch, chrissy, yeah, all their dysfunction that they gave us, thank you, mom. So, yes, thank you to Bonnie and to Jane for Happy Mother's Day. So we've had some exciting growth here in the past month and we just have to acknowledge it because, again, we are just so grateful that all of you are listening and that our dysfunction family is growing.
Speaker 1:We are officially on three continents now. I know I never thought that our voices would like have such a reach, but yes, so we are in North America, europe and Asia, and we are in seven countries. So special shout out to our two newest countries, sweden and Pakistan. Thank you. I know it's crazy, isn't it weird to think like sometimes, when I see these pop up, that, oh, we're now in Sweden, oh, we're in Pakistan, oh, we're in Ireland, oh, we have more downloads from Ireland. I'm like I want to talk to these people. I want to know what made them listen to us and why they keep like I, I'm so excited.
Speaker 2:I'm afraid there's a coup happening where they're plotting something against me. They're like this this person needs to be stopped. No, but if that makes you listen to this show, I'll take it. But no, it is. It's amazing to think that people from these places, yes, and just the amazing nature of the world we live in with this technology is scary technology just, and everybody beats this whole idea to death. So I'm not going to belabor it for long, but when we were in high school together, yeah we would there.
Speaker 2:Our brains had no ability to even think of any of this stuff, and the fact that we're just sitting here having a great time talking about crap that made us be jerks or be great Carrie obviously turned hers into a strength, and I turned it into an excuse as to why I can be a horrible person, and we would have people who would be interested in listening to this, and so we are very proud and we are very grateful.
Speaker 1:I'm excited I find myself. I mean, people are probably around that. My closest people around me are probably almost annoyed because I talk about the podcast so much. Like you know, every download hey we got another download, or hey, we got another country, or hey, we got another city.
Speaker 2:So too bad. You probably listened to all their crap for long enough. Tell them to sit there, listen to it and shut up it's my time now, that's right what about me?
Speaker 1:it's carrie's birthday today is my birthday, but I'm also excited that now we are officially coast to coast. We got colorado filled in the lake. So now, when you look at the map, you see us from coast to coast. Now we still have a couple. Well, we have what we have 28 states. So we still are missing a lot of states. This is my challenge. I'm going to manifest it, I'm going to put it out there, my birthday wish. We're going to start with the A states. So we need Alaska, arizona and Arkansas. Those are the remaining states that begin with the letter A, so I'm going to start with those three. So come on A states. If you have friends that live in Arizona, arkansas or Alaska, tell them about the podcast. Let's get them on the map. Yes, that's what I think we should do Work to do people Go junkies, go junkies.
Speaker 1:So what else do you want to be thankful for over the past month, Chrissy?
Speaker 2:I'm just thankful for the people listening, for the feedback that we get. I'm amazed at our growth with the countries. I'm loving all of our new flags that are being represented and I am grateful that now, if we want to go on a tour of the country to meet our listeners, we don't have to jump over the middle of the country to meet our listeners. There we go, we don't have to jump over the middle of the country. We have a state that has tied us, so we can just keep it. What was the road you said we could travel on?
Speaker 2:So, because Colorado joined, you guys can have all of I-70 throughout the whole country. So yeah, there we go, karen Chrissy coming to a city near you in the near future on I-70, I guess Yay. So yes, I am very grateful. Yes, it's been fantastic and wonderful, absolutely. And I love it, and I'm so looking forward to keeping this going Me too Me too.
Speaker 1:We did have a little bit of a sad loss this past month, yeah.
Speaker 2:For me. Yes, chrissy, everybody else was like what yes, we lost richard chamberlain, I know.
Speaker 1:And then we, I feel I gotta, did I talk about him before? No, because we haven't been.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we right, right and things are running together yeah, these birthdays and special days for everybody, I mean we had a whole funeral episode.
Speaker 1:we probably should have mentioned it at the funeral episodes, but yeah, we had so much to talk about we had to do two episodes First.
Speaker 2:first firsthand funeral stuff we were dealing with?
Speaker 2:Yeah, but yes, so, so unfortunately, though, not only is it unfortunate that we lost Richard Chamberlain, right, right, but you guys, junkies, and everybody out there you lost your chance to be able to see the thorn birds for free, because now this guy's out and they're like oh they, just so, now you got to pay for it. So your six hours, you're going to be paying for that six hours in front of the tube watching it, but they actually have something on YouTube I did find. Yeah, the thorn birds in 10 minutes.
Speaker 2:Oh so send me that link. Why birds in 10 minutes? Oh so, send me that link. Why do you want to be committed to the show for six hours? Carry, how insulting look. If you guys just need a quick fix on what that is and the whole lovely thing that chrissy got in trouble for talking about it in school. Thorn birds in 10 minutes.
Speaker 2:Thorn birds in 10 minutes the other thing is is I'd like to give you a quick preview, yes, of what's on the horizon for everybody. So we have some really great shows and Carrie and I take a lot of time discussing topics and we like when we get ideas, yes, and it's so interesting because we sometimes don't have the idea in our mind and then something comes up and we're like God, this is so interesting. I know we could build a whole show around this and it's like one crazy thing that happens. So we have coming up for you the dysfunction of our healthcare system and how we deal with that and how we've had be exposed to that.
Speaker 2:We're at that wonderful age of everything falling apart starting things are breaking down a little bit and we need to reevaluate our approach to our health, which we probably should have did years ago. I'm talking about me mostly, but so that'll be an interesting and, I hope, informative too, because I think Carrie and I both, as with a lot of people out there, you have things that you're experiencing. You're not sure what it is, you maybe downplay it and then it ends up being something you didn't realize whether it was more serious, or maybe it wasn't more serious, but these things come up, so we're going to talk about that and then, being in summer, what everybody thinks about is summer happenings and things. One thing that I had to deal with a lot and I think Carrie also with her summer is the prep for what you have.
Speaker 2:That's a big, important thing in your families and mine was the nightmare of opening up the swimming pool. Remember this was like the 80s and it was an above ground pool, but it was a big deal to my family and we were expected to was an event. Participate, yes so yes, so that will be a good time, and you we had a.
Speaker 1:We, my parents, had a camper. So later in life, yeah.
Speaker 2:So important the opening and closing of the camper was always a episode oh yeah oh, it was stuff and for all of those people out there who love to just be reinforced in their already knowledge that I am a horrible human being. We have another episode that I'm gonna have to put a disclaimer on, but it's gonna showcase, unfortunately, but again it it remember the time period we were in and I'm not making excuses for it. But yeah, there's some things that are regrettable, but I find the way they played out, at least for me, in my sick sense of humor, somewhat funny. And what is this topic?
Speaker 1:Chrissy being naughty in school oh yeah, this will be a Chrissy episode, all Chrissy you know what?
Speaker 2:I don't think that's fair. You really need to search deep in your soul.
Speaker 1:Jeez oh man all right, well, I'll give it some thought, see what I can dig up sending out thank you.
Speaker 2:Something just prompted me to remember. Oh yeah, something, and you should have embraced this too. Okay, fingers yes who we have recently gave out her name of natalie yes and I love her for it.
Speaker 2:She is, uh, keeps us in together, yeah, sends me messages after she listens to the shows. She sent me the sweetest message I'm paraphrasing, but I really appreciated it. So she's talking about all of this stuff that she was dealing with. I was not aware. Okay, because, again, because she was so cute and sweet and everybody liked her so much because she had that shining personality that she had, I just assumed that things were. You know, you do. Yeah, we all put up that. Right, not me, but some people put up that.
Speaker 1:Everything is okay, but your world is falling apart. Everything is good and I live in a perfect world.
Speaker 2:Don't talk about the elephant in the room, but she had dealt with things that I didn't realize she dealt with, and those are her stories to tell, but the one thing she did say was that she, listening to us, made her realize how much she really loved and appreciated the unsupervised trouble that she was able to get into with me, aw and. I just thought she said it better. I'm hoping in the future we at least have her call in. At a minimum we may even be able to work it out where we're all together.
Speaker 1:That would be fun. That would be fun, and there is.
Speaker 2:She doesn't realize it, maybe you don't either, and if I can find a photo of it, yeah, but you two were with me. We met, yes, at my dad's the important girls in my life.
Speaker 1:Right, you know so yeah, appreciate that.
Speaker 2:So maybe I was a horrible person, but it's some people gain some benefits from that and they're only coming to that realization now, so I thank you Very good, very good.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we have some exciting stuff coming up. We really do, and even looking farther ahead. You know we kind of like project some things, but I'm excited where we're going and I'm thankful for everyone and that all the, all the comments you know again just from my work, friends to you know, going to the gym and just just everywhere People are being great shout outs to us. So thank you, yes, thank you very much.
Speaker 2:I love our junkies.
Speaker 1:We do Well.
Speaker 2:On that note, you know it's my birthday, so I love you, chrissy, but I need to go eat some tacos or something there you go and margaritas and make sure you have some sort of a pastry or cake that is required today, with something with fire on it. Yeah, and blow out the candle and make a wish.
Speaker 1:I will and we'll sing the birthday song. Just one right, just one, yay, all right, junkies. Well, thank you for this special episode and joining us on thankful sunday, coming to you each month now and then throughout the week. Don't forget where we drop our new episodes every wednesday, and then on one friday a month, you will have that special friday episode, a throwback episode, or flashback fridays, as we're calling them. So we've got more content coming your way. See you soon, junkies. Bye-bye.
