Thankful Sunday: Celebrating Milestones and Meme Therapy
The Dysfunction Junkies podcast has hit a remarkable milestone this month, reaching over 2,000 downloads across 9 countries, spanning numerous states and 152 cities worldwide. Hosts Kerry and Chrisy couldn't contain their excitement during their special Thankful Sunday episode, where they shared their gratitude for the growing community of "Junkies" who tune in regularly to hear their relatable stories and humorous takes on life's dysfunctions.
Looking ahead, the hosts teased exciting upcoming episodes on ancestry DNA testing (which Chrisy humorously described as "digging for more dysfunction"), toxic relationships, and creating healthy boundaries. Perhaps most intriguing was Kerry's mention of "meme therapy"—potentially a new concept she's developed finding therapeutic value in humor through memes. This blend of entertainment, practical advice, and genuine conversation continues to be the winning formula that attracts new listeners while keeping existing ones coming back for more dysfunction-fueled insights.

Welcome to a special, Thankful Sunday edition of the Dysfunction Junkies podcast. We may not have seen it all, but we've seen enough. And now here are your hosts, Chrisy and.
DJ Nick:Kerry.
Kerry:Hello, Junkies. Welcome to Thankful Sunday. I'm Kerry
Chrisy:and I'm Chrisy.
Kerry:Oh, we got so much to be thankful for this month, Chrisy,
Chrisy:I think we do.
Kerry:Oh, I can't wait to get started. So we are breached our over 2000 downloads. So we're so excited about that. In nine countries, in over states and 152 cities. We're just growing and we're so excited. Thank you all.
Chrisy:Yes thank you, we love watching those numbers go up.
Kerry:Yes, and Chrisy's really good about keeping her eye on the stats on new cities. So Chrisy go.
Chrisy:Well, we have some really cool new places that have popped up and we're always excited about that. We had Orlando and Tampa, Florida Yay, Hamilton and Beachwood Ohio.
Kerry:Now those are on two different sides of the state, right Hamilton is that down south? And Beachwood? I'll look to my partner over there.
Chrisy:He knows where all the places are in Ohio. Yes, ithaca, new York.
Kerry:That's cool.
Chrisy:It is, it's cold there and they get a lot of snow because I remember I was thinking of going to college there and my father said don't expect to see us for a really long time, because I'm not coming to pick you up when they're unburied in snow.
Kerry:Yes, but thank you, ithaca. It was also cold in Ohio, where we live, until June. I mean, come on, we had like 40 degree weather up until Memorial weekend.
Chrisy:Oh, I'm sure we can still get there again. I mean it's a running joke with Ohio and our discrepancy in weather here. But yes, ithaca, great job. Thank you for listening. Lee's Summit, missouri I don't know where that's at, I might have to Google that.
Kerry:It sounds lovely, it does.
Chrisy:I think everywhere sounds lovely. That's not where I'm at Cliffside Park, new Jersey, good.
Kerry:We still got to get a couple of those other New England states. So hey, new Jersey people talk to some of the Rhode Island, maine and Connecticut I think we still don't have yet.
Chrisy:Yeah, we're working on it and. La, Los Angeles. I mean, they pop up every once in a while, but I think because of the size of Los Angeles.
Kerry:Yes.
Chrisy:They show up as new because we get different areas.
Kerry:Right, so like little suburbs within. So it comes up as Los Angeles, but yeah, it might be like Orange County or something. Right, so it comes up as Los Angeles, but yeah, it might be like Orange County or something Right, so thank you Excellent.
Chrisy:We love to see our growth chart continue to grow, so thank you, the one other thing, too, I wanted to be thankful for and I think this speaks volumes about our podcast is that not that long ago, our Valentine's episode took the spot as the most downloaded episode. It was for the longest time. It was the most dysfunctional time of the year. Yes, the Christmas episode we did, we did a few, but that was the one that people were listening to like crazy. And then people discovered the Valentine's Day one, which is crazy Also. I do know very good. I think all of our shows are good, but I understand the appeal of some of them are a little bit more ridiculous and funny, which we love, or relatable, or relatable, and so that one has now become the most, which I think will tell you that when you give us a listen, re-listen, yes, because you will discover episodes that maybe you listened to when they were on. Yes, but going back and really listening, you're going to catch stuff you didn't catch the first time.
Kerry:Which is why we started doing Flashback Fridays. Yes, so this month, on Flashback Friday, we're going to have Christmas. In July we're going to be flashbacking to I believe it was episode six that was Return the Coat, keep coat, keep the daddy yes, which I think is really good advice. It really is so we talked about Christmas shopping and the holidays there, so that is going to be the flashback Friday for July. So, yes, yes, what else do we?
Kerry:got go we have some really great reviews. Oh my gosh, I wanted to cry when I read this one review. Now, of course, I just pulled it up on my phone. Oh, here it is. Okay. We got a wonderful review on Apple Podcast. The listener says Mama5D and she says I feel like I'm hanging out with my best friends when I'm listening to Carrie and Chrissy. What a binge-worthy listen. Love everything about this podcast Way to turn dysfunction into laughter. Looking forward to more episodes wonderful. Thank you, mama 5d, for wherever you are. That was a beautiful. It totally encapsulated everything.
Chrisy:We hope so, thank you yes, thank you, that is wonderful. We also have another review here from krista in Medina. She says I am really enjoying the podcast. It is light and fun and really speaks to my stage in life. And she also says she wants to meet Nick's sisters, which we'll have to see about arranging that.
Kerry:I do have to ask how did the sisters, did they talk anything about your dip episode?
Chrisy:No Again. I think maybe they they they're not listening, Probably because they know I do pull an awful lot from my experience with my interactions with them. So maybe that it's a self protecting thing for them Maybe, but they get to hear plenty of it, because I always make sure I let them know, and so does my husband, that they a situation regarding them was featured in our show.
Kerry:There you go, so another review on the Apple podcast was from fingon38 says. Grew up in Ohio in the 80s and 90s, love all the stories and how relatable these ladies are. So thank you again for their wonderful reviews and don't forget, if you find that you would like to comment and give us a review, you can go to whatever streaming device you're on Apple Podcasts, spotify, youtube. You can go to our Facebook page. Leave us a review.
Chrisy:We'd love to see and read your feedback and see how we can help you more and, if you, have a topic that you might like to see us discuss that you would be interested in what our take, whether we have an experience with it or not. We are happy to do that too, because I think, if anything, we can always have fun and try to let you know what, how we would maybe deal with that dysfunction or you know we wouldn't deal with that dysfunction.
Kerry:I do think that's something we need to start looking into, because I've had a lot of people start talking to me and sending stories of things that have happened to them and so maybe, yeah, we need to start figuring how to weave that into one of our monthly episodes. You know, call it like listeners speak out or junkie talk or something. So we'll work on that.
Chrisy:Our favorite dysfunction of the month We'll have have. It'll be yeah, yeah, this month's favorite dysfunction is coming from blah blah, blah.
Kerry:Hey, when we were talking about all the states we were in I think it was like last month or so I said we were going to start trying to fill in the blanks, and so I mentioned that we needed a states. We needed Arizona, alaska and Arkansas. Well, we got Arizona.
Kerry:So, thank you to the listeners in Arizona. Still need Alaska and Arkansas, but since we got Arizona filled, we're going to the next alphabetical one, which is Connecticut. So, listeners, if you have friends or family that live in Alaska, arkansas or Connecticut, please talk to them. Share about the podcast. Let's see if we can get them on the map.
Chrisy:Or if you know anybody anywhere else who's just not listening. True, we love it all.
Kerry:So, chrissy, we are going to be talking about some of the things coming up. We talked about Flashback Friday coming up, but I think we have some episodes on Ancestry.
Chrisy:Oh, yes, yes, the thing that was popular. I don't know if it's sort of losing its popularity now, but over the last 10, 15 years, maybe 20 years, it's become quite a thing to send your DNA off in the mail and have people analyze who and what you are and why you are. And I find this concept horrifying, interesting and very dysfunctional, because isn't the dysfunction that you know about enough?
Kerry:Now you're digging for more dysfunction.
Chrisy:Good for you, you are way braver than I am. That's a good way of putting it.
Kerry:Oh yeah, we're going to kind of go down the rabbit hole a little bit more about toxic relationships and creating healthy boundaries, and I have recently found that meme therapy has been really helpful to me. So I have a collection of memes that we're going to try to weave in somehow in some of our future episodes to share about. Maybe there'll be therapy for you too.
Chrisy:Well, I'm very excited and interested in that. I don't, didn't know this was a thing. Is this?
Kerry:a thing, memes or meme therapy.
Chrisy:Well, no, I know the memes. Uh-huh, I got that Okay.
Kerry:I don't know if it's a thing or not, or if it's just something I created, but I find meme therapy.
Chrisy:You need to patent that no.
Kerry:Here we go, here we go. Okay, we need to call our attorney that helped us with our trademark and stuff and add meme therapy.
Chrisy:Yes, that is your thing. Don't let anybody else touch it. Don't let anybody else touch it.
Kerry:You heard it first here on.
Chrisy:Dysfunction Junkies, that's right.
Kerry:So, yeah, we have a lot of up and coming shows that are. I think they're going to be pretty fun and possibly relatable. So absolutely All righty. Well, this is Thankful Sunday. We are so thankful to all of you, our listeners. Please be sure to check us out on our Facebook page, on our website, dysfunctionjunkiesbuzzsproutcom.
