Dysfunction Junkies

From wigs to downloads: when a 1972 doll predicts your co-hosts

Chrisy & Kerry Season 1 Episode 66

Send us a text

Gratitude doesn’t have to be grand to be real. We open our Thankful Sunday by naming the people who make this show possible—Chrissy’s quick wit, DJ Nick’s sharp edits, Kerry's ongoing laugh trac, and Farm Boy Jim’s steady support that keeps our energy up even off-mic. From first test recordings to our 67th episode, we trace how a small idea became a growing community across 12 countries and 196 cities, and why the numbers matter only because the people behind them do.

DJ NICK:

Welcome to Thankful Sunday, a special edition of the Dysfunction Junkies Podcast. We may not have seen it all, but we've seen enough. And now, here are your hosts, Chrissy and Carrie.

KERRY:

Hello, Junkies. I'm Carrie. And I'm Chrissy. It's Thankful Sunday. Thankful Sunday. We have so much to be thankful for.

CHRISY:

We do.

KERRY:

I first want to say that I am so thankful for you, Chrissy and Nick.

CHRISY:

Thank you. I am thankful for you and for our Farm Boy Jam.

KERRY:

I know, thank you. You know, it's been a wonderful journey. We've been doing this for uh what almost 12 months now, right?

CHRISY:

Well, we've it's been in the workings longer. Yes. But uh the actual putting it all together, yes.

KERRY:

It was about this time last year that we started doing our test recordings and getting ready to release our podcast in November. So crazy. I know. So I am very thankful for both of you. Uh Chrissy, for your wit, your humor. You always keep me laughing. You always catch me off guard. I love it.

CHRISY:

I live for that.

KERRY:

And DJ Nick, your editing skills and your I can't remember the name of the Googling that's not Google now. What is it again? Gemini. Gemini. Your Gemini skills.

CHRISY:

Yes. I actually sat and watched Nick do some editing. Yeah. I lasted about five, not even ten minutes. And I admired him more than I already do. So I know.

KERRY:

We know it's a lot of work, so thank you very much for all that you do. Thank you. And for Farm Boy Jim, thank you. I know you're not often here in the studio with us, but you are an ever-present support to us all. You know, I love hearing your feedback. And what I love most is Farm Boy Jim's not a dancer at all. But the one thing that gets him a moving into grooving is when he hears our intro and outro music. Nice. He always will start doing a little, a little j a little jing. A little jing. And I just it makes me smile every time. One of these times I'm gonna catch it on film because it's just the cutest. That'll be great. Anyway, so thank you.

CHRISY:

What else have we got to be thankful about, Chrissy? Well, we have so many things. Yes. But the one thing I always look forward to announcing is our new cities. We have a good handful plus of new cities that have joined our family. Yes. Uh so we have Shawnee, Kansas.

KERRY:

Our Kansas crew is going. We're starting to see more and more from that area. Nice.

CHRISY:

Yeah, we love it. Thank you. And we have Orland Park, Illinois. Interesting. Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Where's that?

KERRY:

Oh, it is? Okay, it's south.

DJ NICK:

Oh, awesome. I think it's east.

KERRY:

Okay, but it's in the Columbus area.

DJ NICK:

North. Yeah, I think it's a north, northeast to eastern.

KERRY:

Maybe that was one from our dog fest. Could be. Could be. Yay. Thank you, thank you. Thank you. Yeah.

CHRISY:

East Rutherford, New Jersey. Nice. And Jonesboro, Georgia. Yeah.

KERRY:

We are getting a little crew in Georgia listening to us too. There's a couple cities in Georgia. So awesome. Yes. Yeah, so that makes us right now. We're at 12 countries. We're at 196 cities and about three, well, we're probably over 3,000 downloads now. And that we're on our 67th episode. So we're pretty excited at those stats. So thank you all for being part of that. Yes. And I do have to say, for those of you that have decided to support us and do a monthly donation, thank you. We are really, really are appreciative. In fact, I think we have some a little bit of swag that we're going to be sending out your way. I had just recently got some extra things for our events that we've been at, and we're going to be sending those out to those of you that have been supporting us with your monetary dollars. If you would like to do that, all you have to do is go to our podcast website page, dysfunction junkiespodcast.com, and you can click on that support to help keep this coming at you, also. Yes.

CHRISY:

And uh as we get more and more into late fall and into I hate to say it. What? Winter. Sorry. Hopefully we can have some really some new great swag, as you put it that will help keep you warm. So we're looking into that too.

KERRY:

Yes, we are really need to start working on that merchandise section where people can purchase merchandise. Because we do have some really cool t-shirts and things like that. And we're just trying to find a way of how to get that in process in out to you guys as expeditiously as possible. So we're working on that. Yes, we are. Yes. I also do want to give a shout out to the marketing firm that we have been working with, Instant WebMakers out of California. They've been helping us with our website design, they've also been helping us with some of our social media. So we are very grateful for them and all that they've done to help us out this past year. So again, thank you, you guys, there for Ben, especially. He's the main guy we work with there. So thank you so much for all of your help. Yes, thank you. Let's see, what else do we have to be thankful about? Oh my gosh, in September we had our Junkies Care initiative where we were supporting K9 Companions. We had a fabulous event on a Sunday in December. Oh my gosh. September. Yes, I know. So you mentioned winner. We were out there supporting them for their dog fest. So we want to thank everyone who supported us, supported K9 Companions. We were raising funds for them. We've had donations on our fundraiser page for that. So thank you all who donated for that and who helped support the show and helped supported K9 Companions.

CHRISY:

Yes, thank you. Fantastic organization.

KERRY:

Absolutely. Let's see, what's else on our list here, Chrissy?

CHRISY:

Uh, let's maybe just get off course a little bit, but thankful I came across this on the somehow. So I found it fascinating. There used to be a doll. Oh yes! The doll. The doll.

KERRY:

This is like so weird, but this is uh this is it's it's almost like psychic almost.

CHRISY:

Almost. It's uh premonitioning. So there you go in the 70s. There was a doll. It was the Chrissy doll. Yes. And uh Chrissy doll's hair could grow long, or you could get it to be short again, and uh it was a brown-haired brunette doll. Yes, and I was looking into it a little bit more, and the other bizarre fact was that the Chrissy had a friend. Did she? A doll, and her friend's name was Carrie, and it was spelled correctly. It was, yeah, the Chrissy doll, uh, although it is Chrissy. Yes, it's uh C-R-I-S-S-Y, I believe. And I'm C-H-R-I-S-Y. Not a big deal, it's still Chrissy. Yeah, but Carrie was exactly the way you spell your Carrie, unreal. And the other thing was is like it was from the year we were born. No 1972. Oh my gosh. And the other weird thing, Chrissy, I told you was a brunette. Yes. Carrie was a blonde. Woo! We need to post a picture of it.

KERRY:

We have to, yes. And we need to find them. Yeah. We need, I think we need a Chrissy and Carrie doll in the studio. I think we do. We really do.

CHRISY:

It's like well, then the doll thing gets a little weird, but it's a little creepy. Don't throw a sheet over it, leave it in the corner. We're freaked out.

DJ NICK:

Well, if you find a Nicki doll, you do not buy it. Oh, we need to look at it.

KERRY:

DJ Nick doll. Oh, did the Chrissy and Carrie doll have a friend, a Nick and Jim doll? We can make our own. Yeah, we could. I know that was really weird.

CHRISY:

I thought it was crazy. I couldn't believe it. Yeah, I actually discovered this while we were driving to see you and Jim. I was on the phone looking into it. And I was like, I have to text you this. I don't care.

KERRY:

Is that when you guys came over for Farmboard Jim's party? Yes. Yeah. Uh-huh.

CHRISY:

And I was just so yeah, uh, anybody who out there who maybe is listening and had a Chrissy or Carrie doll, we would love to hear from you.

KERRY:

Yes. And is your doll up for sale?

CHRISY:

Yeah. We're gonna have to do the eBay or what what are the other uh sites where you can Facebook Marketplace?

KERRY:

Is Craigslist still a thing? I don't know. Is that even a thing anymore?

CHRISY:

Is Etsy a site where you find things like this or no?

KERRY:

Etsy's usually people making things. Like it's more, I mean, I guess people could resale old stuff there, but usually Etsy is like people making things. Oh, okay. I'm an Etsy shopper. I I do like to support Etsy. Oh, okay. Yeah, in fact, one time I ordered a dog collar, a leather dog collar for our dog. I ended up, I didn't realize when I ordered it, it was from somebody in I forget what country, but it was Germany or Switzerland or something like that. And my my postal worker came to the house and he was like, uh, you have a package from Switzerland, you know? And I'm like, what? And then I realized, oh, that's my Etsy thing, that the handmade dog collar.

CHRISY:

I didn't know I have to go check that out. I hate to say it. I've never really looked at that.

KERRY:

Oh yeah, you go down a rabbit hole on that one. Oh boy. Maybe I shouldn't. So Nick says no. Nick says no. Yes, I am thankful for Etsy.

CHRISY:

Okay. Wonderful.

KERRY:

Yes, so we've had a lot. And then I we started uh doing the blog on the on the website. So I have my blog on there. So I'm really thankful for those that have been uh reading the blog. Chrissy's getting hers going, so soon we'll have more thoughts from Chrissy on on the blog. Whether you like it or not. So it's been a lot to be thankful for. So we always like to take a few moments out to recognize those things that we're thankful for. Now it is not too late. If you want to meet us, we are going to be in downtown historic Worcester. I love saying that. This is so fun to say. Saturday, October 25th. We are going to be supporting the United Way of Wayne and Holmes counties, and they are having their heart and ghoul 5K and one mile spooky sprint. And then there's gonna be a muddy monster bash at Muddy's afterwards. We're sponsoring uh one of the sponsors for the race. Who knows? Chrissy and I might show up as the Carrie and Chrissy dolls. Yeah, we've been playing around with that idea. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see what we do. But we are thankful for everything that the United Way does to help people in the community, supporting different organizations that they that they help, such as the Dolly Part and Imagination Library, they support a severe weather shelter, they support YMCA, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Boys and Girls Club, and so much more in the Worcester area. So we are thankful for them and all that they do, and we are very grateful to be able to partner with them this month for our Junkies Care initiative. Absolutely. All right, everybody. Well, we hope to see you all on the 25th. If not, you know where to find us next week. Bye bye. Bye, everybody.
