It's Thankful Sunday. The heart of the episode beats in our thank-yous. Moving states takes stamina, and we spotlight the people who made it happen: southern Utah’s Sonya Stauffer and Northeast Ohio–Pennsylvania’s Malinda Koncar, two realtors who navigated details, deadlines, and the unexpected with calm and care. We also shout out Letters by Lantern Light for bringing weekly cozy mysteries to our community, proving that storytelling and small businesses can lift podcasts and listeners together. Then we zoom out to our listener map, celebrating California, Pennsylvania; Austintown, Ohio; Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Huntsville, Ohio. Every pin marks someone choosing us during a commute, a chore, or a quiet night in—and we feel it. And because gratitude lands best when it leads to action, we’re championing the American Heart Association this February: heart health basics, real tools, and CPR skills that save lives. Hit play to hear the stories, meet the people behind Kerry's move, and add your city to our growing map. If this episode made you nod, laugh, or message a friend, share it, subscribe, and leave a review—then tell us: what your Thankful for?

Welcome to Thankful Sunday, a special edition of the Dysfunction Junkies Podcast. Where we may not have seen it all, but let me clean it up. And now, here's your host, Chrissy and Carrie.

SPEAKER_02

Well again, hello, junkies. I'm Carrie.

CHRISY

And I'm Chrissy.

Cold Weather And Sports Banter

SPEAKER_02

It's Thankful Sunday. Yay! Thankful Sunday. Well, the one thing I'm not thankful for is this cold and snow. It needs to go away.

CHRISY

Football season's over.

SPEAKER_02

Yay! That's thankful.

CHRISY

Yay! I'm thankful. I don't have to hear things like uh screaming loud sounds of where's the flag? And I saw that all the way from here. And I'm thinking, yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

CHRISY

So I'm thankful for that. Sorry, all you football fans. I actually do enjoy football and watching it. And I do understand it, believe it or not. Thank goodness, thank God for my husband who uh helped me. But I growing up even before him, I was with people who enjoyed it very much. So I got a good idea of what the game was about. But I am happy when it's over. Yeah, yeah. So expectations of it.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, we're getting into March madness, which that to me is madness. That all you hear is the tennis shoes squeaking on the floor every time you flip the channels because of all the basketball and the squeak, squeak, squeak. Now does Jim watch basketball? Thank God he is not into like if we ever watch if there's anything really legit as far as sports on our TV, it would be baseball, which I'm all in on. But yeah, so we don't have to watch too much sports, which is good.

CHRISY

Nick does enjoy sports in general. Yes. All sports. Uh but really football is the one that he's very, very involved with. Yes. Okay. And I actually have to get it. He's moving in. He's like, I gotta get in on this.

SPEAKER_00

I've never been no, go ahead. No, I I love as a younger person to play baseball. Yeah. And softball. Yeah, me too. And then I love to play basketball. But I I don't like to watch it as much as I like watching football. Yeah. Now, if there's nothing else on, I'll I'll watch it. I'll watch basketball.

SPEAKER_02

It literally for me is those squeaky shoes that you hear the squeak, eek, eek. And you know, I I can't. I can't listen to that.

Live Games Versus Watching At Home

CHRISY

So yeah, it's a it's I just before we move on to our thankful stuff. Speaking of basketball, like I've never been to a professional football game. High school, we were at all the time. All the time. And I've gone to college games. But never now, Nick's been to a couple Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes. Uh him and my dad were both Steelers. Yes. He's a Steelers friend. My father was a Steelers friend. They got to go to two games together. I'm thankful for that. Yeah. If we want to be thankful for anything, I'm glad they got a chance to do that together. But I did have the opportunity to go see the Cavaliers. Boston. Oh. Celtics in Cleveland. Okay. And I have to say that watching it live was better. It's so much better. Now, see, football for me would be insane because you're so far away. Yeah. But basketball and freezing. Yeah. It's just usually the elements aren't great. Right. But basketball was was way better. I could see that. I could see that. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, basketball and baseball are are definitely better sports live. Yeah, I disagree with baseball.

SPEAKER_02

I love watching baseball. Professional baseball. I love watching it on TV. I like watching it, you know, going to the stadiums and watching. I have no problem with that. I can watch at any time. But football, you had your fill of football too. I did. Yeah, way too many times on the sidelines and freezing and well, I I do prefer bet football actually on a TV.

SPEAKER_00

Not just because I'm freezing my butt off in a stadium. But you can see better. Well, you could see things better. And then, you know, obviously the the you know, the networks that the commentary NFL or college football games, those networks know what they're doing, so they make it a good experience to watch it. So I'm thankful for that. We're thankful for this sports.

CHRISY

And we're thankful when they come to an end.

SPEAKER_02

Yay. Well, I have a lot to be thankful. Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

Chrissy's least favorite word is overtime.

Gratitude For Realtors And Helpers

SPEAKER_02

Yes, we've had that on the episode. She's talked about that. Yeah, yeah. Yes. Well, some of the things I just need to give a quick shout out when I'm thankful for. As you all know, I'm in the process of moving, and I just have to say I have to give a shout out to my amazing realtors. So if you happen to be in the southern Utah area, my amazing realtor, Sonia Stoffer, S-T-A-U-F-F-E-R, she's uh your southern Utah realtor. Amazing. This lady went above and beyond to help us with this move and the purchase of our new home. So if you are in the southern Utah area and need an amazing realtor, uh, she's your gal. Now, over here on the east side of the country, Melinda Konkar is our realtor. And again, equally amazing young lady. Her last name, K-O-N-C-A-R, absolutely amazing. So these two ladies both helped us with this move, both buying and selling. So I have to say a huge shout out and thank you to both of these ladies. So if you're looking for some great real realtors in uh northeast Ohio, Pennsylvania area, or in southern Utah, those are the two to look up.

SPEAKER_00

There you go.

SPEAKER_02

So now, show related, we have to give a huge shout out and thank you to Letters by Lantern Light. Uh, they have us on their website because uh we've talked about them a few times. So thank you to Dawn and your amazing Letters by Lantern Light Company for sharing our show and for your amazing products. So you're if you want a nice cozy mystery sent to your home every week, they're they're the ones to contact. You can look them up, letters by lanternlight.com. Wonderful. Yes, thank you so much.

CHRISY

What do you got for us? I got some new cities can uh talk about here. Yeah, we have California, uh, Pennsylvania. Yeah, I never knew there was a California, Pennsylvania. There is, and they uh gave us some downloads, so thank you. Yes, absolutely. Now this one is such a connection for us. And we're not exactly sure because I don't understand the whole download game, but this one popped up. Uh it's so funny. Austin Town, Ohio. Austintown, Ohio, my hometown where I was born and raised. And my husband, Nick and I lived there for about uh 14 years, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

As adults, yeah.

CHRISY

As adults, yeah. That's where we lived before we moved here to Worcester.

SPEAKER_02

So I will have to say, I am certainly surprised that this little town did not show up sooner. But that's where we were trying to figure out how the algorithm of the downloads and stuff was it just getting shuffled over to the big umbrella of Youngstown or whatever. But yay, Austin Town showed up. Yeah, you showed. Good job. Good way, good way to go, way to go.

CHRISY

This one's interesting. Council Bluffs, Iowa. Yeah. Do you know somebody in Iowa? I I I'm lucky to know anybody on my in my development in another state.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, wait, Iowa, Ida. Yeah, I don't know anyone in Iowa. I know some people in Idaho.

CHRISY

Right. But not Iowa. They must talk. Huh? Maybe they talk and said, listen to this.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, an i state to an i state. I don't know. Thank you. Yeah, so thank you, Council Bluffs. Iowa.

CHRISY

And Huntsville, Ohio. Yeah, where's this at?

SPEAKER_02

What part of the state does it? We did check it out.

CHRISY

Yeah, we did. We're we were just talking about it yesterday, Nick. Where did I say it? Is this southern?

SPEAKER_00

It's what what part?

CHRISY

What's it's a village. It only has like 400. It's a very small population.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's in the southeastern part of the state. In Logan County. Oh.

Okay, very good. So awesome. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you, little town there in Ohio. We have to, you know what? I know we track our states and we track our cities, but I'm almost getting to the point for Ohio. I there's 88 counties in Ohio. I wonder if we're in all 88 counties. We might be. There's a lot for we we should probably take a look at that. I'm gonna have to take a look at that and see. Yeah. So yeah. So thank you for our listenership.
