KERRY

Welcome to the Dysfunction Junkies Podcast. We may not have seen it all, but we've sure seen enough. This is one of your hosts, Carrie. I'm flying solo today, but know that my co-host and friend Chrissy and DJ Nick send their best. So today is March 1st, and it's time for another edition of Dysfunctioning Junkies Care. Junkies Care is our way of creating community awareness, recognition, and engagement on fabulous organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. Today's episode is late and I take full responsibility for that. I recently moved to Utah, and let's just say life is a little hectic, but I wanted to make sure we got something out. So here I am flying solo. I apologize, it's not going to be as beautifully edited as DJ Nick does, but hey, we're doing what we can. Don't worry though, we will have our regular weekly episode all lined up for Wednesday. So this month we are highlighting Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Canab, Utah. I had the honor of visiting this animal sanctuary about 20 years ago, and I fell in love with it. Now that I'm living in Utah and only about two hours away from the sanctuary, I look forward to spending more time there and volunteering. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the largest sanctuary of its kind in the United States. It spans nearly 5,800 acres in Angel Canyon in Southern Utah. It opened in 1984, and since then, Best Friends has become the heart of a collaborative no-kill movement and a model for the future of animal welfare. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, like I mentioned, is tucked in the majestic Southern Canyons of Southern Utah. It's truly an amazing place. It's situated near several scenic wonders, including Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon's North Rim, Bryce Canyon, and Lake Pau. On any given day, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the healing home for up to 1,600 dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, pigs, and other animals. There's so much to do at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Whether you're there for a single day, or maybe you go for a whole week, there's plenty to do and so many ways to get to know the animals. Whether your interests are rolling up your sleeves and helping with the daily care, or maybe picking up a pal for a field trip off-site, or simply checking it out by taking one of their official tours. There's a way to meet and greet the animals that's perfect for you. And hey, by the way, there's a variety of family-friendly options, so be sure to bring your kids. Are you maybe looking to adopt your next pet? Well, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has many animals that are also up for adoption. Other ways to help are by volunteering. And again, there's a variety of opportunities to volunteer. Can't get to Southern Utah? Don't worry. Additionally, Best Friends is working with the Navajo Nation Animal Control and the Navajo Nation Veterinary Program to help provide spay and neuter and rescue organizations to save more lives in the Navajo Nation. They're also working to address the overpopulation of free warming dogs and increase public awareness about animal-related issues. To learn more about Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, I highly encourage you to go to their website, bestfriends.org. Maybe you could also make a donation or become a monthly donor. There's so much to do and to learn. Again, I really encourage you to check them out. After spending over 20 years working with animals and in animal shelters, this is one of the few places I truly and passionately recommend. If you love animals, be sure to check them out. All right, junkies, that's all for now. But Chrissy and I look forward to an exciting new month for the Dysfunction Junkies podcast. Soon we're going to be coming to you not only through the audio, but also through video. So stay tuned for more information to come. In the meantime, check out our website, dysfunctionjunkies.com or our Facebook page. We'd love to hear from you. See you next time, junkies. Bye bye.
